Traditional Flint & Steel is a fantastically simple fire-lighting tool and is one of the oldest methods for fire-starting based on ancient designs.
Reliable Lightweight Simple Fun! We stand by all of our products with a no-hassle promise; if you’re not satisfied for any reason we’ll make it right.
We carry additional charcloth and flint pieces to restock your primitive fire kit so be sure to check out the other items in our store.
Our traditional fire steels are hand-forged from high carbon steel in a classic Nordic or Viking style that is simple and easy to hold. In this Basic starter kit, we include a piece of natural Texas flint, and two 2″ squares of charcloth so you can start practicing right out of the box!
When struck with a piece of flint, small particles of steel are scrapped off that quickly oxidize in the air, turning into sparks through a process know as pyrophoricity. These small sparks can be “caught” with a piece of charred cloth that will grow an ember that can then be used to ignite larger tinder to make a fire.
It is a process that takes patience and practice to master, but is an excellent skill to learn as an alternative to modern fire lighting techniques.
It makes a perfect compliment to your existing fire-starting kit at the same time adding a traditional way firestarting. Each steel is hand forged from high carbon steel that will last for generations.
